After our drive through the Olympic Park we began our Sydney Foodies Tour where we enjoyed some of the best local cuisine.
Our first stop was at P.R. Raineri Deli, one of the the area’s most popular Italian delis, where we sampled cured meats, cheese, bread, olives and olive oil.
Boarding our coach for the Sydney Fish Market
The Sydney Fish Market is the world’s third largest and hosts daily wholesale auctions. My photos really don’t do this venue justice – imagine aisles upon aisles of all kinds of fresh seafood. Our tour director set up a buffet of fish, prawns, oysters, calamari, fries and fresh fruit. In a very amusing moment (in retrospect), a seagull swooped down and stole my oyster from off my plate!

Then it was on to Messina Gelato, voted “Best Gelato” in Australia, for ice cream cones/cups.
Then it was on to Woolloomooloo, a harborside inner-city suburb of Sydney. Harry’s Cafe d”Wheels has been around since 1945 and specializes in pies of all types and sizes. After all that seafood, I played it safe with a small meat pie.
Our final stop was at the Old Fitzroy Hotel, a country style pub, where we had samples of three of Australia’s favorite beers.
